Bruce Bayley is a Partner at SPP and has built strong expertise and connections in the Education and Government sectors. At the University of Melbourne, he held positions including Director of Strategy and Commercialisation and VP International. Bruce has also worked with other tier 1 consultancies including the Boston Consulting Group, and with Big 4 and other accounting firms. Working on commercial projects for clients, he brings an extensive knowledge of the evolving online education space; a deep understanding of innovation and commercialisation, hands-on operational expertise; a strong understanding of doing business in Asia through establishing operations in these markets; and, direct experience in the vocational education sector.

Growth strategies for numerous businesses:
This includes development of new product offerings to meet emerging market needs, new digital services, assessing channel partners in new and existing markets and assessment of greenfield project opportunities (including all financial modelling and demand modelling).
Product development and benchmarking:
This includes assessing emerging skills shortages, current market uptake and market provision of education offerings for a G08 and several other Universities. This has included numerous assessments and visits to international markets including India, China, Malaysia, Vietnam, HK, Singapore and Philippines to understand in market perspectives of market needs. More recently it has included working with a University to develop new “micro” credential based set of products to meet the fast evolving education market.
Operating model review:
To determine optimal operating structure and product mix. This includes international operations and has focused on assessing and redesigning operating model and product offering to determine optimal staffing and product mix for target markets and existing operations.
Digital strategy development and implementation:
To pursue emerging online education market opportunities. This include whole of campus digital strategy for a G08 University, strategy refresh for two WA Universities, new product opportunity identification for Australia’s fastest growing online provider, a refresh of a major distance educators online approach, due diligence assessment and model design of potential JV between private educator and public University.
Commercialisation Strategy development:
For several Australian Universities and research institutes. This includes having successfully developed business plans and competitive bid submissions for multiple CRC, centres of excellence and individual start-up companies.
Policy development:
Including reviewing potential impact of Commonwealth government budget changes in higher education sector for several Universities.
